Asking for your help

We're running short of our $20,000 goal.

Powered By People

Hi Jason, it's Cynthia at Powered by People.

I wanted to personally reach out because our October fundraising deadline is only hours away, and right now we're running short of our $20,000 goal. If you can, would you please consider chipping in to help us hit this critical goal by midnight?

Powered by People has big plans for 2022 and beyond. We launched our new college program with Student Fellows working across six Texas campuses, and we're planning to expand our voter registration efforts to reach Texans in every corner of the state. But these plans depend on hitting our $20,000 fundraising goal before midnight tonight.

I know I don't have to tell you how much is at stake, Jason. In the past year, the far-right state legislature — led by Governor Greg Abbott — has passed an extreme voter suppression bill, a restrictive abortion ban, and made it legal to carry a gun without a permit or training. Not to mention, the GOP's failure to protect Texans from COVID-19 or fix our power grid.

As a grassroots organization, Powered by People's work isn't funded by super PACs or corporate mega-donors. We're fueled by tens of thousands of individuals who care about the future of Texas and our country.

Jason, together, we can register hundreds of thousands of new voters and work towards a safer, healthier, and more just Texas. Please, with just a few hours to go, will you chip in $10 or more to help hit our $20,000 goal?

We rely on support from people like you

We set a goal to raise $20,000 by midnight.

Powered By People

Jason,

Yesterday, Kate announced our goal to raise $20,000 in grassroots gifts before midnight tonight to hit our October fundraising projections.

Powered by People is doing the work now to make the changes we want to see in Texas, but we rely on support from grassroots donors — like you — to fund our organizing. Please, will you chip in $10 or more to help reach our must-hit $20,000 fundraising goal before midnight?

Contribute $10

Since 2019, Powered by People has served as a necessary check against Texas Republicans' undemocratic power grabs. This year, we're planning ahead to turn out record-breaking numbers of Texas voters in 2022 and beyond. Here's exactly where your next $10 contribution will go:

  • Organizing all over Texas: For far too many years, politicians have shrugged off some areas as too Republican or places where it's impossible to get people to the polls. Powered by People believes in investing everywhere — it's why Beto and our volunteers have been canvassing and phone banking in places like Laredo all year.

  • Fighting back against Governor Abbott and the Texas GOP's voter suppression scheme: For months, Powered by People has been rallying against the chorus of Republican voter suppression bills introduced in the state legislature. Now, we're working to make sure SB 1 doesn't go into effect by calling for federal legislation to protect our voting rights.

  • Registering hundreds of thousands of new Texas voters: We know the key to electing leaders who care about the issues important to Texans is voter engagement. So, Powered by People volunteers are registering new voters wherever they are – college campuses, community events, even their own doorsteps.

Jason, every $10 contribution from people like you goes directly to forging a more inclusive democracy. If you can, please chip in today to help grow our movement. Together we will hit our $20,000 goal and make real change in Texas.

Thank you,

Powered by People

This couldn’t be more urgent

Republican lawmakers are taking attacks on democracy to a new level.

Powered By People

Jason,

The work that Powered by People is doing in Texas couldn't be more urgent.

Texas has a long and dark history of voter suppression. But in the past months, we've seen Republican lawmakers take attacks on democracy to a new level — passing extreme voting restrictions and approving a new electoral map that consolidates GOP power.

With democracy at stake, we can't afford to slow down. Right now, Powered by People is organizing volunteers, registering voters, and laying the groundwork for a blue Texas. That's why we're setting a goal of raising another $20,000 in grassroots donations before the end of October — to make sure we don't miss a beat in our critical work to counter Republican-led voter suppression.

It's going to take all of us to reach our $20,000 grassroots goal before midnight tomorrow. Jason, will you chip in your next $10 donation to Powered by People's October goal and join our work to preserve democracy?

Contribute $10

The 2022 election might be over a year away, but Beto and Powered by People volunteers are fighting for Texas as if it's tomorrow. The stakes are just that high.

Now, with our October 31 deadline just one day away, we're counting on this grassroots movement to support our work, so we can continue to create the change we want to see in Texas despite Republicans' best efforts to silence our voices.

Meeting our $20,000 end-of-month goal will ensure we can stay on track with our goals to connect with, register, and turn out voters in all 254 Texas counties. You can play a vital role in our work as a grassroots donor, Jason. Consider chipping in to put us one contribution closer to our goal — any amount helps.

Thank you for helping make history in Texas, Jason.

$21.68

I want to be transparent and share an important number with you today.

Powered By People

Jason, I want to be transparent and share an important number with you today.

$21.68 — That's our average online donation so far this month. It may not seem like much, but it's folks like you donating $21.68 — sometimes more, sometimes less — who support our work to protect our democracy.

Our work is 100% funded by grassroots donations from people like you because we believe it's people who should be powering change — not corporations or special interests.

Jason, if you're able, could you make a donation of $21.68, or whatever amount makes sense to you, before our end-of-month fundraising deadline on Sunday? Every dollar makes a difference in the fight to make the change we want to see in Texas.

Contribute $21.68

$21.68 is more than a dollar amount, Jason — it represents the movement we're building to elect leaders who care about the issues important to Texans.

$21.68 means clipboards and pens for our volunteers to take when canvassing their neighborhoods. It means funds to travel to every corner of the state to register new voters and speak with Texans who feel left out of our political system. And it means having the resources to go up against bad actors in Texas.

Here's the truth: It won't be super PACs or mega-donors that save Texas, it will be everyday folks chipping in $21.68 or whatever they can.

So, will you chip in and show your support for Powered by People today? With the 2022 midterms coming up, we have a lot of work ahead to register hundreds of thousands of new voters.

Thank you,

Kate Roberts

Why do people volunteer with Powered by People?

Texas Republicans want to silence us. We're fighting back.

Powered By People

Jason,

As you probably know, Texas Republicans just created hyper-partisan redistricting maps that unfairly shore up their power and weaken the votes of young, diverse, and Democratic-leaning Texans. So we're fighting back.

Right now, Powered by People is working on the ground, doing what we do best: bringing people together to protect democracy in Texas. Our volunteers are registering thousands of new voters in communities all over the state — keep scrolling to see for yourself!

Check out the pictures below, then help us send even more volunteers out into their Texas communities by chipping in your next donation to Powered by People today.

Picture of volunteers

Picture of volunteers

Picture of volunteers

Picture of volunteers

Why are so many Texans taking the time and energy to volunteer with Powered by People?

Here's one statistic to put it in perspective, Jason. Over the last decade, Texas has gained nearly two million Hispanic residents and more than 500,000 Black residents – yet the new GOP-drawn Texas congressional map increases the number of majority-white districts, reduces the number of majority-Latino districts, and doesn't include a single majority-Black district.

People all over Texas are fed up with Republicans' racist gerrymandering tactics and obsession with diluting voter power. They're ready to do something about it — and Powered by People is organizing those people as volunteers who can register their neighbors, families, and community members to VOTE.

Leading up to the last presidential election, we registered over 250,000 likely-Democratic Texas voters. With your support, we can register even more before the 2022 midterms. Please, chip in now to support our growing grassroots volunteer team as they fight, voter by voter, to protect democracy in Texas.

Jason, the best way you can support the tireless organizing work of Powered by People volunteers is to chip in something today, even if it's just the cost of a cup of coffee. Every single donation helps us fight back against the GOP's latest voter suppression schemes and brings us closer to making the change we want to see in Texas.

In solidarity,

Powered by People

I want to tell you why I'm a part of Powered by People

With every door knock, phone call, and new voter registered, Powered by People is doing the work now to make the changes we want to see in Texas.

Powered By People

Jason,

Today, I want to tell you a little about why I am so proud to be a part of Powered by People.

As a Texan, a mother, and a voter, I've been angry and sick watching the GOP harm our democracy over the past years. In just this year alone, the far-right state legislature – under the direction of Governor Greg Abbott – passed an extreme voter suppression bill, a restrictive abortion ban, and is currently in the process of gerrymandering our state to tighten their power.

It's easy to lose motivation in these moments. But the incredible Powered by People volunteers always renew my faith. With every door knock, phone call, and new voter registered, Powered by People is doing the work now to make the changes we want to see in Texas.

Jason, if you're in this movement, will you please make a $10 donation to Powered by People today? Together, we can fight back against the GOP's abuse of our democracy by connecting with and turning out as many voters as possible.

Contribute $10

Since 2019, Powered by People volunteers have organized over 20,000 volunteers, made over 76 million voter contact attempts, and registered over 250,000 likely Democratic voters. And right now, our volunteers are on the ground registering new voters wherever they are – college campuses, community events, even their own doorsteps.

I'm proud to be a part of Powered by People because of the work we're doing, and every incredible person who is willing to get involved with us and stand up for what they truly believe in.

With your support, we can continue this work and expand our efforts to reach even more Texans. Please, donate what you can today to help fund our organizing work.

Thank you for being a part of this,

For your review: Jason's history with Powered by People

Will you take a look at this?

Powered By People

Jason,

Since we launched in 2019, Powered by People has organized tens of thousands of volunteers, contacted tens of millions of voters, and registered over 250,000 likely Democrats. Now, we're working to expand our reach even further before the 2022 midterms — which means we're reaching out to supporters like you.

For the last few days, our team has been pouring over our grassroots fundraising data. According to our records, you've donated $10 to Powered by People — which means you are one of the incredible supporters who makes our work possible! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for what you've contributed, Jason.

Today, we're asking dedicated donors like you: If you're ready to continue your support and help Powered by People reach millions more Texas voters, will you chip in your next donation of $10 or more to Powered by People?

Contribute $10

Thank you for hearing us out, Jason. We know you have a lot on your plate, which means we're deeply grateful when you take the time to read about our work. Chipping in a few dollars today may not feel like much, but together, all of our individual efforts add up to powerful changes to the Texas electorate.

More soon,

[Photos inside] What our Student Fellows have been up to

Our Student Fellows are registering new voters and organizing on six college campuses to elect leaders that truly represent the people of Texas.

Powered By People

Jason,

The past two elections have seen higher turnout in Texas than ever before thanks to consistent organizing in every single Texas county. Now, we need to build on that groundwork for 2022 and all the elections to come. That's exactly what our Student Fellows are doing.

Young voters more than doubled their share of the early vote from 2016 to 2020 — and young Texans overwhelmingly lean Democratic. That's why our Student Fellows are registering new voters and organizing on six college campuses to elect leaders that truly represent the people of Texas.

Take a look, Jason:

Picture of Student Fellows

Powered by People Student Fellows are organizing at Prairie View A&M University, Huston-Tillotson University, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Houston, Texas State University, and Texas A&M International University to register every new potential voter.

With students moving from different cities and states to attend school in Texas, it's important to make sure everyone eligible is registered to vote. And every single time our Student Fellows show up, new voters are registered!

Picture of Student Fellows

Jason, every grassroots donation from supporters like you helps directly power this work. Will you make a $10 or more donation today to support our Student Fellows' work to register new voters, engage young adults in our democracy, and flip Texas blue?

Contribute $10

Powered by People volunteers have been working hard to expand and protect the rights of Texans all year. And since they've been back on campus, our Student Fellows have been no exception. They're bringing the same energy our movement had rallying for voting rights this summer directly to college campuses.

It's plain and simple. While Powered by People is trying to include more people in our democracy, Texas Republicans are trying to make it harder for students to vote. Defeating bad actors in Texas isn't going to be easy — it will take a multi-year effort centered around community organizing and voter registration.

That's why Powered by People is doing the work now, with just over a year to go until November 2022. If you're ready to be a part of this movement, will you make a donation of $10 or more right now?

Thank you for your support,

We wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important

Look how far we've come.

Powered By People

Jason,

FIRST: Powered by People was founded by Beto in late 2019 to organize volunteers to reach out to, register, and mobilize as many Texas voters as possible.

THEN: We made history. Ahead of the 2020 election, Powered by People organized over 20,000 volunteers, made over 76 million voter contact attempts, and registered over 250,000 likely-Democratic voters — driving historic turnout across Texas!

NOW: We want to make an even bigger impact before the 2022 midterms — and we know we can do it if enough grassroots donors come together to invest in our work right now, in these critical early months.

Jason, if you're able to, please click here to make your next donation of $10 to Powered by People. Every dollar will help our volunteers register more new voters, knock more doors, make more calls, and ultimately, increase turnout across Texas.

Contribute $10

This is an all-out battle for our democracy, Jason, and everything we've accomplished in Texas so far has been powered by grassroots donors like you. We wouldn't ask for your help if it wasn't important, but the stakes couldn't be higher.

Thank you for being a part of this,

Cynthia Cano

re: GOP gerrymandering

Texas Republicans are taking every measure imaginable to shore up their power and weaken the votes of young, diverse, and Democratic-leaning Texans.

Powered By People

Jason,

In April, the results of the 2020 census came out, showing that since Texas gained the most residents of any state in the past decade, it would gain two new congressional seats.

Here's where things stand now:

The New York Times Headline
The Texas Tribune Headline

Texas Republicans are taking every measure imaginable to unfairly shore up their power and weaken the votes of young, diverse, and Democratic-leaning Texans. Jason, unfortunately, this isn't a surprise – the Texas GOP has been becoming more extreme for years. That's why Powered by People has been doing the work to counteract their attacks on democracy.

Our Texas volunteers are registering thousands of new voters in their communities — and on the national level, we're calling on the federal government to pass the For the People Act to protect our voting rights and ban gerrymandering.

If we're going to fight back against the GOP's racist gerrymandering and protect the right to vote, we need all hands on deck. Please, chip in now to support our work to register hundreds of thousands of new voters, elect Democrats, and protect our democracy.

Contribute $10

Over the last decade, Texas has gained nearly two million Hispanic residents and more than 500,000 Black residents – but even with the addition of two new congressional districts, the new GOP-drawn Texas congressional map will not have a single majority-Latino or majority-Black congressional district.

In addition, the GOP doubled the number of safe Republican districts and cut the number of competitive districts from 12 to one. And the same pattern is playing out in state legislative districts where Republicans are desperately trying to stay in power after passing an extreme voter suppression law and six-week abortion ban.

Thanks to the constant organizing work of Powered by People volunteers, the past two elections have brought Texas closer to flipping blue than ever before. Now, we need to fight back against the GOP's latest voter suppression schemes and flip Texas blue once and for all.

Jason, Powered by People is doing the work right now to elect Democrats in 2022 and beyond. Will you donate $10 or more so we can continue our door knocks, phone banks, and voter registration events across Texas?

Thank you for being a part of this,

We want to talk about some numbers

Powered by People Student Fellows are doing the work now to build a better, more responsive government.

Powered By People

Jason,

We know that a lot of the time when we talk about what our movement has accomplished, we have really big numbers to show for it like 250,000 new registered voters and 76 million voter contacts.

But today, we want to talk about something different: Our work on six college campuses to register a historic number of students to vote.

Here's what's so important about this, Jason: Texas has one of the largest populations of young people in the country — and their turnout could be the key to making the change we want to see in Texas. Every new Student Fellow and new voter brings us one step closer to turning Texas blue — and these numbers are just the start!

It's one of the reasons the Texas GOP has been fighting so hard to restrict the right to vote. SB 1, the extreme voter suppression bill signed into law by Governor Abbott last month, has specific restrictions on early voting, mail-in ballot applications, and ID requirements for voting-by-mail that directly impact students' ability to vote.

Jason, our Student Fellows are doing the work now to build a better, more responsive government and to elect leaders that truly represent the people of Texas. Please, donate $10 or more to support our Student Fellows' work to register new voters, fight against voter suppression, and protect our democracy.

Contribute $10

Take a moment to learn more about this work from our Student Fellow Organizing Manager, MacKenzie Jenkins:

"From the time I have been eligible to vote, I have observed many efforts to intimidate and dissuade voter engagement, especially with young people, people of color, and voters with disabilities. My hope is that minority voters across Texas will continue to use voting as an important tool in ensuring our officials value not just our vote, but our voice too.

It is really encouraging registering new voters, and seeing them become excited about the power they have in voting for people who they believe will positively influence their local community and state. At almost every voter registration event there is at least one student who will say, 'I'm going to call my mom and tell her I got registered to vote!' You can really feel their excitement and it is heartening to see the impact of this work so closely."

Jason, Powered by People is committed to registering hundreds of thousands of new voters in Texas wherever they are — on college campuses, at community centers, even at their doorsteps. Please, chip in now to support our work to turn out the most voters Texas has ever seen and elect Democrats in 2022 and beyond.

Thank you,

An update on our fight for voting rights

No matter what Republicans throw at us, we'll continue doing the work.

Powered By People

Jason,

If there's one thing we can say about the Texas GOP, it's this: They're consistent.

Rather than focusing on fixing our power grid or protecting Texans from the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Abbott and the GOP-led state legislature have been singularly focused on suppressing the rights of Texans this year.

Last month, Governor Abbott signed one of the most extreme voter suppression bills in the country, SB 1, into law. Now, the Texas Senate is attempting to restrict voting even further after former President Donald Trump asked for an investigation into the 2020 election in Texas — and let's be clear: The Texas Secretary of State's Office declared the 2020 election as "safe and secure."

The Texas Tribune Headline

Jason, for months Powered by People has been doing the work day-in and day-out to fight against voter suppression and register new Texas voters. And no matter what Republicans throw at us, we'll continue doing that work. Please donate $10 or more today to help our volunteers continue fighting for our democracy on all fronts.

Contribute $10

While Texas Republicans are trying to take away Texans' votes, Powered by People is building an inclusive democracy. Our volunteers are registering new voters and encouraging others in their communities to become Volunteer Deputy Registrars so that they can do the same.

Defeating bad actors in Texas isn't going to be easy — it will take a multi-year effort centered around community organizing and voter registration. That's why Powered by People is doing the work now, with just over a year to go until the next statewide election.

Jason, your support allows Powered by People to bring more people into our democracy so that we can build a better, more responsive government and elect leaders that truly represent the people of Texas. Will you chip in $10 or more to support our work to register new voters, fight against voter suppression, and protect our democracy?

How to make a difference:

Beto has answers for your questions!

Powered By People

Jason,

A few weeks back, we reached out and asked if you had any questions for Beto. Nearly 2,000 folks reached out with questions – ranging from book recommendations to questions on how to defend our democracy.

After going through every question, our team picked out some of our favorites for Beto to answer. You can read some of his answers below! But first, if you can, please consider making a donation of $10 or more today to fund the important work that Beto outlines in his answers.

How do I get trained to help register voters for future elections?

Texas was already the toughest state in which to register to vote and cast a ballot, and with the recent passage of the SB 1 voter suppression bill, it's only become harder. By getting certified as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR), you can make the process easier for folks by registering voters in your community – and help us take back our state in 2022.

I encourage you to click here to find all the information you need to become a VDR in your county. And then I hope you will consider joining our team of Powered by People Ambassadors – our statewide team of over 1,000 VDRs who have registered about a quarter-million Texans to vote in just the past year and a half. You can click here to learn how to become an Ambassador with us.

What are you reading these days? Any good books to recommend?

I am reading Woody Guthrie's "Bound for Glory" to my son Henry.

How are donations spent in this organization?

Donations from our supporters help ensure we have a steady stream of resources to register, engage, and turn out the voters who will make the difference in 2022 – everything from voting rights rallies to phone banks to in-person canvasses and voter registration events. Donations also allow us to support exciting Democratic candidates and organizers in Texas, who are helping bring about the change we want to see in Texas.

Powered by People volunteers are doing this work in some of the toughest, hardest to reach areas with some of the lowest turnout rates in the entire country. Take Laredo, for example: like other communities along the border, voter turnout in Laredo was just about 50% in 2020. Instead of hiring a bunch of political analysts to tell us why people down there aren't voting, we're reaching out and asking the voters themselves. Through phone banks, deep canvassing, and having these conversations one-on-one, we've learned a lot about what issues matter most to folks, and what it's going to take for them to vote in the future. You can read a recent Laredo Morning Times article about our Laredo-based volunteers here.

Like Beto said, action is the antidote to despair, Jason. And donations from our supporters help ensure we are able to support our volunteers in taking action. So please, make a donation of $10 today to fund this important work ahead of 2022.

Contribute $10

We hope that Beto's answers to your questions help inspire you on a path of action ahead of the 2022 midterms. This work couldn't be more urgent, and every donation you can give or hour you spend making calls helps make a huge difference in our mission to flip Texas blue and defend our democracy.

Thanks again for your support, Jason. We'll be sending out another round of Beto's answers soon!

We've been working nonstop

Beto and Powered by People volunteers are doing the work now to register new voters and organize our communities so we can make the change we want to see in Texas!

Powered By People

Jason,

Powered by People volunteers have been working nonstop lately to protect and expand our democracy.

From Laredo to Austin, our volunteers are showing up everywhere — college campuses, farmers markets, and even on their neighbor's doorstop — to register new voters.

Two Powered by People volunteers sitting at a table registering new vot4ers.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, our amazing ambassadors registered OVER 1,000 new Texas voters — and even made the news!

Goal to register 2,022 new voters ahead of 2022

We're showing up now, with over a year until the 2022 election, because the fight for our rights can't afford to take a break.

That's why Beto and Powered by People volunteers marched in the Women's Marches that took place over the weekend. With reproductive freedoms under the most extreme attack since Roe v. Wade, it's on us to register new Texas voters to help elect officials who will stand up for abortion rights.

Powered by People is working to protect the rights of all Texans and build an inclusive democracy. Will you make a $10 or more donation today to support Powered by People's work to register new voters, flip Texas blue, and elect leaders who care about Texans?

Contribute $10

Jason, it's plain and simple: Texas Republicans are trying to take away Texans' rights. They have passed extraordinarily restrictive abortion and voter suppression laws — all while ignoring the current COVID-19 crisis and our power grid.

It's going to take each and every one of us to put an end to this chaos and cruelty and elect pro-choice, pro-democracy leaders in 2022. Beto and Powered by People volunteers are doing the work now to register new voters and organize our communities so we can make the change we want to see in Texas!

We're going to fight for our democracy with everything we've got. If you're ready to be a part of this movement, will you make a donation of $10 or more right now?
