With early voting underway in many states and Election Day just weeks away, every moment counts to prevent Trump from regaining the White House. One of my favorite political organizations, Vote Common Good, is taking action.
I've been a proud partner with Vote Common Good from the very beginning. We connected during my first run for Congress, and I am proud to be a Common Good Candidate. Over the years, I've seen firsthand how their tactics move the needle with faith voters who are on the fence about their political identity in the age of Trump.
Their "His Words Matter" billboard campaign was critical in flipping critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin in 2020—and ultimately defeating Donald Trump.
Now, they need our help to do it again, but on an even bigger scale.
These billboards highlight Trump's own cruel, reckless words, reminding voters of the damage he's done to our democracy and decency.
Things he's actually said, like:
"Support me, or you'll be so god@#mn poor." "I'd bomb the s@it out of them." "People are dying. It is what it is." "If they stay poor for generations...they're morons." "I'd like to punch him in the face."
The billboards juxtapose these with the words of Jesus, creating a stark contrast that sparks crucial conversations among faith voters.
Vote Common Good has set an ambitious goal to blanket Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Georgia with these billboards, and the first ones went up this week. But they need to raise another $30,000 by the end of this week to keep them up through Election Day.
As an elected official, I know that our words matter. The president's words especially matter. These words shape our national dialogue and influence our national conscience.
We can't let Trump's hateful rhetoric go unchallenged. With your support, we can remind voters that Trump's words reveal what's in his heart—and that his heart stands in direct opposition to the values that so many Americans hold dear.
