Hey y’all, it’s Colin here. There’s a LOT that goes into building a winning campaign, and a lot of folks have been asking about our strategy for a path to victory, so today I want to pull back the curtain, so to speak, on how the work we’re doing and the support we’re getting today will set us up for success a year from now. Building A Coalition
We didn’t start this campaign from scratch. We're building on the momentum of our historic campaign last year – powered by over 800,000 grassroots supporters like you. That incredible strength helped us outperform the top of the ticket by 200,000 votes – more than any other Democratic Senate campaign in the country. We may have come up short in that race, but we proved that Texans are willing to cross party lines to vote for what’s right. The biggest lesson I took away was that we need to do even more this time around. Connect with more voters. Hold more events. Travel to more cities. So that’s what I’m doing now. In just a couple of months, I’ve met thousands of people, hosted more than 13 rallies and town halls, visited dozens of cities, and picked up shifts at several small businesses.
These visits aren’t about photo ops – I want to be really clear about that. Behind each photo I share are real people with real concerns who I’m having real conversations with. Because, unlike my opponents, I am someone who believes that listening is more important than speaking, and that the best ideas come from right here in our communities, not from behind closed doors in plush Washington offices. Outlining A Way ForwardThat leads me to the second major pillar of this campaign: getting to work and making real commonsense plans to address the challenges Texans are facing – the challenges I’m hearing about every day when I talk to people on the campaign trail.
I’m talking about the skyrocketing costs of housing, health care, and child care. Stagnant wages and fewer opportunities for workers. A government that would rather hand out tax breaks to billionaires than fight for our families and wants to rig our elections just like they’ve rigged our economy. And spineless politicians like my Republican opponents, Ken Paxton and John Cornyn, who are either too corrupt or too weak to do something about it. So I’ve taken the feedback I’ve gotten from talking to Texans, and I’m turning it into actionable plans for change. Starting with my 12-point Anti-Corruption Plan, I’m also focused on lowering costs, providing immediate support for working families, and ending partisan gerrymandering here in Texas and across the country. The Data Shows We Can WinI know we talk about the polls a lot, especially the three that show me ahead of Ken Paxton, the leading GOP candidate in the race.
These polls are an important indicator that we can win, and they’ve helped put this race on the map. Now, all eyes are on Texas with national outlets like the Cook Political Report upgrading our chances of winning as soon as I got into this race, and The Hill ranking this one of Democrats’ best pickup opportunities in the country. The truth is, as we've all seen before: Polls aren't everything. But they represent momentum! And to make sure we keep up our momentum and don’t waste this huge opportunity to flip Texas blue, we need resources. Resources to keep traveling across the state, host more town halls, get our ads on the air, and reach the 18.3 million registered Texas voters where they are. Unlike my opponents, I don’t accept money from corporations or super PACs. I’m proudly running a grassroots campaign powered by people like you because I believe politicians should be accountable to the people they serve, not wealthy donors or lobbyists. But that means I have to ask for your help to reach my first, and critical, FEC end-of-quarter goal. After the FEC’s quarterly deadline on September 30, our fundraising numbers will be a matter of public record. This is another huge indicator of our campaign’s strength and our chances of winning. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to put up strong fundraising numbers for the first public filing report in this race – and to get where we need to be, we have to raise $50K every day between now and the end of the month. I know that sounds like a lot – and it is. But if everyone reading this gave just 5 or 10 bucks, we’d get there in no time. So please, I’m personally asking, can I count on your support to help us do something truly historic – finally flip Texas blue and give Texans the leadership we deserve? I think transparency is important in every aspect of life, and with that in mind, I hope this was a helpful look at the thought process behind our campaign strategy. We’ve got a long way to go, and of course, these strategies will change over time, but at its core, this is what my campaign is about: listening to folks across Texas about the issues that matter most to them, finding real solutions to the problems they’re facing, and making sure we have the resources to continue reaching voters all the way through next November.
