Jason,
There's some insane youth voter suppression going on around Florida right now and no one is talking about it.
Here's what's going on: I've been in Florida the past few days helping to get out the vote for Leaders We Deserve endorsed candidate (and my friend), Nate Douglas. Yesterday, we were reaching out to students at a college football tailgate at UCF when I heard from multiple students that they haven't voted yet because the line is too long.
I'm talking 2-3 hour waits for early voting at the University of Central Florida where there are 12 voting booths for 50,000 students. 👎
This was the line to vote early. Yesterday, it was 2-3 hours long and it was about to rain. (spoiler alert, same thing is happening today too)
This is straight up election interference by one of DeSantis' minions, the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, who is actively suppressing youth voter turnout at the University of Central Florida.
For context, I asked multiple people how long the wait is in a different (older) part of the district and it's only a 10 minute wait to vote there.
Previously, the state was trying to ban early voting on college campuses for which it was sued. The courts forced the State to allow it. Now, they're just making it extremely time-consuming to vote on college campuses.
Today, they've added more voting booths but the lines are still this long. Students are turning out massively and UCF happens to overlap with Nate Douglas' district.
This situation outlines how urgently we need to reach every voter and equip them with the information they need to cast their vote. Not only that, we need to make the case for candidates – like Nate – who are fighting to regain abortion rights or enact common sense gun laws.
Thank you,
David Hogg
