What I just sent to the White House:
There's no higher priority for me than the safety of Marylanders.
That's why we've taken an all-of-the-above approach to public safety to address the root causes of crime. We're mobilizing resources, building partnerships with local communities and law enforcement, and ensuring the best possible data-sharing and coordination.
And, while there's always more to be done, it's working. We're seeing record drops in homicides and gun violence.
So, you can imagine my anger when I learned that the President was personally insulting me and the city of Baltimore from the Oval Office.
Look, even in the face of the Trump administration's millions of dollars in cuts to federal funding for violence intervention and gun violence prevention – our state and local communities continue to invest in proven strategies that are building safer, vibrant neighborhoods. And it's making a difference.
So, I invited Donald Trump to Baltimore to join local officials, law enforcement, and community groups for a public safety walk and witness our progress first hand.
We'll see if he accepts the invitation. But, if he doesn't, my message is pretty simple.
If you are not willing to walk our communities and if you are not willing to stand with our people, keep our name out of your mouth.
In Maryland, you'll find people who want to be part of the solution, not the problem.
