Donald Trump is trying to shut down the federal agency that protects consumers from big banks, shady payday lenders, and abusive financial practices.
So today — for the 51st time this year — I'm taking the President to court.
Here's the background:
Right now, the Trump administration is refusing to fund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — the agency created after the 2008 financial crisis to protect everyday people when they deal with banks, lenders, and credit card companies.
That decision is reckless, it's unlawful — and it would have immediate, real-world consequences for millions of families.

For more than a decade, the CFPB has been one of the strongest tools we have to hold powerful financial institutions accountable. It's the place people turn when they're hit with unfair bank fees, predatory car loans, mortgage abuses, debt collection harassment, or credit report errors that can ruin their ability to get housing or a job.
It's also returned over $20 billion to consumers nationwide — money that belongs in people's pockets, not padded onto corporate balance sheets.
Now, Trump is trying to dismantle that protection by starving the CFPB of funding — even though the law clearly provides a way for it to keep operating.
This President is already pushing policies that make life more expensive — from tariffs on everyday goods to cuts in basic assistance — now on top of that, he's abandoning the government's responsibility to protect consumers from being taken advantage of.
California isn't going to stand by and let that happen.
I'm leading a coalition of attorneys general from across the country to stop this unlawful attempt to shutter the CFPB and to demand that the federal government follow the law and fund the agency's critical work.
This is what it means to show up for working people — not just with words, but with action.
