A Supreme Court watchdog group reported that SCOTUS Justices have received at least $4.7 million in gifts over the past 20 years.1
Justice Clarence Thomas alone likely received $4.2 million in gifts.2 Some were from billionaire GOP megadonors; others were from folks who had cases heard by the Court.
The Supreme Court is in a legitimacy crisis. So yesterday, Alexandria joined Ranking Member Jamie Raskin to announce legislation that would bar SCOTUS Justices from receiving gifts valued at over $50.
If Congress fails to hold the Supreme Court accountable, it will send a dangerous signal to the special interests trying to buy them off that their actions are fair game.
