I've got something on my mind today, Jason, but first I'll get right to the point:
*Just so you know, we are behind on small dollar fundraising projections this quarter because Google/Gmail changed their email algorithm (without telling us) so a ton of our emails were being sent to people's spam instead of their actual inbox. We're finally fixing it, but this means we do need to catch up.*
We only started Leaders We Deserve last year, and we've already made an impact.
Just look at the Virginia elections last year when we elected Nadarius Clark, now serving as the youngest member of the Virginia Assembly. He went on to cast the deciding vote that killed a Republican bill that would allow the arming of teachers.
More recently, we helped Molly Cook win a special election AND a primary runoff in Houston BY ONLY 74 VOTES!!!! (A little too close for comfort but that means we spent the perfect amount of money and no more.) AND that means we elected the youngest, most progressive, and first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Texas Senate – and it's not even November yet! (It's pretty awesome 😊)
These early victories are truly incredible, especially because we founded this organization knowing we were playing the long game. The way I see it, the work we're doing at Leaders We Deserve is a 30-year chess game inspired by how conservatives took over the country. It will take time, but we can take it back.
Jason, I am fully confident one of our endorsed candidates in the next cycle or two will be President by 2050. We are electing the next generation of leaders at every level who have the potential to change the course of American history.
We're electing young leaders who can create a society free from gun violence, where school shootings are left in our history books and not in our headlines. And a country where threats like climate change are met with action and not paralysis.
I can't thank this team enough for the essential role you play in this work. Our mission is not just about helping young people claim their power, it's about laying the groundwork for the massive overhaul our political system desperately needs.
