The American Climate Corps, a Green New Deal program, is here. The ACC creates opportunities for new positions in local communities across 20 states to address the climate crisis.
This government jobs training program won by our movements is employing young people to take on the local, escalating impacts of the climate crisis. Moreover, a partnership with building trades unions gives participants a clear path to union apprenticeships.
An article recently published by Kate Yonder notes how a vast majority of 18-22-year-olds are worried about climate change, with two-thirds of them unsure what they can do about it.1
We're working hard to encourage Congress + President Biden to expand the ACC and pass more Green New Deal programs aimed at addressing the climate crisis and creating new, high-paying work. In that same article, I noted how: "It's really not just the thousands and thousands of people who will be employed through the [American Climate Corps] who I think could have had their mental health improved, but also their acquaintances, families, neighbors, who similarly will benefit from knowing that folks are actually being hired to work on this."
