This is big: less than two weeks after Rob filed a lawsuit to block the massive and illegal proposed merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, he secured a deal halting the merger until June 1, 2027, or after a decision from the court (whichever comes first).
This is great news for all the people who write, create, and work on the art, news, and entertainment we all consume!
We’re proud of this tremendous win in the ongoing effort to make sure this $110 billion megamerger never sees the light of day, and look forward to continuing to make this case in court. And as always, this major step forward is only possible because of your support for Rob.
If you’re in a position to support Rob’s re-election campaign so we can keep this work going, please contribute any amount today — even $5 makes a difference. As Attorney General, Rob Bonta will never stop fighting to hold law-breaking corporations accountable.

Today, I’m leading a coalition of 12 states in filing a new federal lawsuit to block the largest merger in Hollywood history.

The film industry is incredibly important to California, so I want to talk through exactly what this merger would mean — and why we’re asking the court to step in and block it:
Paramount Skydance is already massive. If their merger with Warner Bros. Discovery goes through, one industry titan would own two of Hollywood’s major film distributors and two of the major basic cable channel owners.
The combined corporation would control nearly one-third of all theatrical motion pictures, and nearly one-third of basic cable TV programming — a clear violation of antitrust law.
If you want to support our work enforcing antitrust law and holding powerful corporations accountable to the law, please contribute any amount today.
With this merger, Paramount and Warner Bros. would be able to snuff out competition, drive up prices, diminish content quality, and create fewer films and television shows each year.
We have antitrust laws for a reason: competition fuels innovation. Think of Titanic, The Godfather, Casablanca, Harry Potter… who knows what these movies would have been like if not for the competition driving these distributors to produce their very best work?
The film industry has the power to bring us together, and in California it's a source of immense pride — and employment — up and down the state. The industry exists to tell stories, to spark ideas and curiosity, to inspire and inform, and to open our eyes to new perspectives.
It doesn’t exist to create monopolies that drive up prices and drive down consumer choice.
I’m suing Paramount and Warner Bros. to block this merger, make sure antitrust laws are enforced, and protect consumers in California and across the country.
If you’re with me, will you help power our work with a contribution right now? No amount is too small — anything you can give has a real impact on what we can accomplish together.

Every single person deserves to be able to participate in and benefit from a vibrant economy — not just sons of billionaires, CEOs, and shareholders — and as Attorney General, I’m committed to making that a reality.
I’ll keep you updated on our progress.
