Governor Greg Abbott

It's plain and simple: Texans deserve better than Greg Abbott.

Powered By People

Jason, Governor Greg Abbott failed Texans this week.

On Monday, Abbott declared Texas would opt out of federal unemployment benefits tied to COVID-19 including the $300 weekly unemployment supplement. For some families, $300 is the difference between paying rent or buying groceries. If Abbott truly cared about workers, then he should be leading efforts to pay people more, provide universal health care, and make Texas a Right to Organize state.

Then, on Tuesday, Abbott announced that all cities, counties, and public schools in Texas can no longer mandate mask-wearing and that they will be fined if they attempt to do so. This decision is careless and puts schoolchildren, families, and teachers at risk. Instead of focusing on vaccinating Texans (including children 12 and older), Abbott is choosing to focus on partisan politics.

That's not all, Jason. On Wednesday, Abbott signed SB 8 — which bans abortions after six weeks, before most people know they are pregnant — into law. The majority of Texans support access to safe and legal abortion, but this law is unashamedly dangerous and one of the most restrictive in the entire country.

This week has been a new low for Governor Abbott.

Governor Greg Abbott is failing to do his job and serve Texans. Can you make a donation of $10 today to support our work to register new voters, increase turnout, and replace bad actors like Abbott in Texas?

Contribute $10

Jason, these are only the latest examples of Abbott's cruel behavior. During this unprecedented pandemic, Abbott has undermined public health and local leadership at every turn. As a result, we've lost friends, family, and neighbors to COVID-19, small businesses have been sidelined, hospitals have closed in rural Texas, and millions lost power during winter storms.

It's plain and simple: Texans deserve better than Greg Abbott. But defeating him and other bad actors in Texas isn't going to be easy — it will take a multi-year effort centered around community organizing and voter registration.

That's why Powered by People is doing the work now, with over a year to go until the next statewide election. Beto and our volunteers are talking with residents in counties that have historically low voter turnout and registering new voters every day.

If you're ready to be a part of this movement to flip Texas blue, will you make a donation of $10 or more right now?

Thank you for your support,

Beto vs Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz has proved over and over again that he does not represent Texans.

Powered By People

Jason,

Across the country, we're seeing the largest coordinated attack on voting rights in decades. In Texas, Republicans are advancing dangerous voter suppression bills including SB 7, so Powered by People is stepping up to the frontline to fight for our voting rights.

Beto and other Powered by People volunteers recently rallied in Austin against SB 7 and the more than 50 other voter suppression bills moving through the state legislature. Beto has also been vocal about what steps we can take to fight back from calling our Texas state lawmakers and becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) to putting pressure on the White House to pass the For the People Act.

But, there's one person who hasn't seemed at all concerned with limiting Texans' voting rights… Ted Cruz.

Senator Ted Cruz Verified @SenTedCruz
@SenTedCruz

I applaud the TX House for passing SB 7, a bill to safeguard our elections in TX, despite immense pressure from woke corporations and the liberal media. The bill protects the voting rights of 29 million Texans and would make our elections in TX more accessible and more secure.

This tweet makes it clear: Ted Cruz openly supports a bill that would harm Texans. And he couldn't be further from the truth when it comes to SB 7. If signed by Governor Abbott, SB 7 would disproportionately impact voters of color, working Texans, young voters, and voters with disabilities making elections less accessible.

Jason, while Ted Cruz put his political ambitions over Texas again, Powered by People will keep fighting for our state. Please, chip in $10 or more to support our work to register new voters, increase turnout, and replace bad actors in Texas, like Ted Cruz.

Contribute $10

Time and time again, Ted Cruz has proved he does not represent Texans. He led the failed effort to object to the certification of President Biden's Electoral College victory, fled our state during unprecedented winter storms, and now he's unabashedly advocating for voter suppression.

When the stakes are this high, we can't afford to take any days off. Powered by People is doing the work every day to register thousands of new voters so we can overcome Republicans' voter suppression tactics and flip Texas blue in 2022 and beyond.

We're going to fight for our democracy with everything we've got. If you're ready to kick Republicans like Ted Cruz out of office, will you chip in $10 or more right now?

We’ll make this quick:

Tomorrow, we're hosting a virtual phone bank to call previously-identified Democrats in Webb County to talk to them about their priorities and the importance of voting – and we need more volunteers if we're going to reach every Webb County voter.

We'll make this quick, Jason.

Tomorrow, we're hosting a virtual phone bank to call previously-identified Democrats in Webb County – and we need your help if we're going to reach every Webb County voter.

Can you join Beto and other Powered by People volunteers tomorrow, May 18, at 6:30PM CT?

We'll be talking with Webb County residents about their priorities and the issues that matter most. Folks in border counties, like those in Webb County, historically vote Democratic, but often voter turnout is low. With your help, we can build our coalition and increase voting turnout across Texas.

Thank you for your help,

We need your help, Jason.

Next Tuesday, we're hosting a virtual phone bank to call previously-identified Democrats in Webb County to talk to them about their priorities and the importance of voting – and we need two more volunteers from 90291 if we're going to reach every Webb County voter.

Can you represent 90291 and sign up for our phone bank next Tuesday, May 18, at 6:30pm CT?

When you join Beto and Powered by People volunteers during canvasses or phone banks like this one, you're actively taking part in the resistance that is fighting back against the rampant voter suppression happening in Texas.

SB 7 – the bill would make it even harder to vote in a state that was already the most voter suppressed in the country and would disproportionately affect Black and brown voters, voters with disabilities, and working Texans – is one step closer to getting Governor Abbott's signature. That means we need to be ready to fight back as soon as it's signed into law.

And Jason – we fight back by connecting with and turning out as many voters as possible.

Please, will you join us on May 18 to make calls to Webb County residents? These folks historically have low voter turnout, and making strong connections now will increase turnout in the future.

Thank you for your help,

We Need Your Help NOW to Protect the Right to Vote in Texas

Powered By People

Dear Jason,

This is the most important moment to fight back against voter suppression in Texas.

Yesterday, Beto and Powered by People volunteers joined lawmakers, advocates, business leaders, and concerned voters in Austin to rally against the more than 50 voter suppression bills moving through the Texas Legislature. Over 500 people from across Texas—from El Paso to Dallas to Corpus Christi—signed up to show up at the Texas Capitol to stand up for our democracy and push back against these egregious anti-democracy bills.

There are three things you can do RIGHT NOW to join us in this fight:

For Texas residents: Call your state lawmakers: On Friday, Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives advanced SB 7, a dangerous bill that aims to suppress the power of Texas voters in future elections—especially voters of color, working Texans, young voters, and voters with disabilities. But the fight isn't over: legislators still must draft a final version of the bill, which then must be voted on again by both the House and Senate.

Click here to find the contact information for your state representative and state senator. Urge them to reject SB 7 and any other anti-voter bill.

For everyone: Urge President Biden to do everything in his power to support this fight: We're doing all we can in Texas to protect our democracy, but we need federal support. Right now, the U.S. Congress has the chance to pass a critical piece of voting rights legislation called the For the People Act, which would bring to a halt all anti-voter legislation in Texas and across the country.

Click here to learn how to contact the White House to urge President Biden to do everything he can to support the For the People Act and help us push back against voter suppression in Texas.

For Texas residents: Become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) to help Democrats win elections in Texas: Democrats are fighting tooth-and-nail right now to protect our right to vote. We need your help to elect more Democrats and flip Texas blue in 2022. By becoming a VDR and registering as many voters as we can, we can all do our part to protect the right to vote in Texas.

Follow these steps to become a VDR:

  • Look for your county name here, and follow instructions to sign up and attend your training.
  • If you don't see your county on your list, don't worry! You can still attend an upcoming virtual training with us (sign up for that here).
  • Attend and complete your training, and receive your VDR certificate.

Once you've done these three things, please forward this email to all the Texans you know so they can do the same. We can only win this fight with the power of people like you.

We can't thank you enough for fighting with us,

Phone bank May 18

Powered by People is hosting a phone bank on Tuesday, May 18.

Powered By People

Jason,

Around 3AM Friday morning, the Texas House of Representatives passed SB 7, an egregious voter suppression bill. This bill would make it even harder to vote in a state that was already the most voter suppressed in the country and would disproportionately affect Black and brown voters, voters with disabilities, and working Texans.

SB 7 is now one step closer to Governor Abbott's signature, but our fight is not over. The competing versions of the bill still have to go to a conference committee and then will be voted on again by both the House and Senate.

Now, we need to use our people-power to connect with millions of voters to overcome these voter suppression efforts and win critical elections in Texas.

That's why Powered by People is hosting a phone bank on Tuesday, May 18. We'll be calling previously identified Democrats in Webb County and forging relationships that will make a difference in how these communities vote in the future. And if you're conversational in Spanish, you'll be able to help us reach even more voters!

Will you fight back against these voter suppression efforts and join Powered by People in calling Webb County residents, Jason?

I know bills like the one that passed yesterday can be terrifying, but we the people decide what is possible and every single call we make brings us one step closer to a blue Texas.

Beto, Powered by People volunteers across the country, and I will be responding to the challenges facing our democracy by listening to Texans and growing our movement.

Please, will you join us on May 18 to make calls to Webb County residents?

Thank you for your help,
