 | | |  | | Jason, tomorrow is January 6th – a date I will never forget. | | On this same day in 2021, I was on the House floor when we heard pounding on the doors. Glass breaking. People yelling. | | The Capitol had been breached – and in that moment, I immediately texted my wife, Aly, who was seven months pregnant with our second son at the time. I wrote, "Whatever happens, I love you." Then I took off my jacket and prepared to defend my colleagues if anyone came through that door. | | Thankfully, it never came to that. But what we witnessed that day came far too close to destroying our democracy. | | That experience has stayed with me – and as I run to return to Congress, it feels more personal than ever.
We cannot allow the same extremist forces that fueled January 6th to further entrench their power. Too many in Washington are enabling Trump, giving him free rein to dismantle our system of checks and balances piece by piece. I am running to be that critical check we need in the House. | | The only way forward is to fight back. So today, as we reflect on January 6th, I'm asking: If you believe our democracy is worth protecting, will you chip in $5 or more to help us defeat GOP extremism and take back the House? | | Our democracy depends on what we do next.
