There's been a lot of discourse about whether Democrats should focus more on taking on Trump or working on pocketbook issues, like the cost of living.
Here's the reality: taking on Trump is a pocketbook issue.
His tariffs will increase the price of materials we need to build housing. They will threaten our food supply, hitting all of us at the grocery store. His disastrous budget will raise health care costs for millions of Americans.
A key step to bringing down costs for families is stopping Donald Trump and his harmful policies that move us in the exact wrong direction.
California's next governor needs to do both: stand up to Trump and take action to reduce costs. And, she needs to understand how these two issues are related and be able to explain it to people.
Look, I wish it weren't this way. I wish President Trump actually kept his promise to make life more affordable for Americans. I won't hold my breath.
