Every once in a while, we'll hear people say things like, "Why donate to a candidate in a blue state? They'll win anyway." or "What's the use in supporting progressives in 'safe' seats? It's already in the bag."
But here's the hard truth. No seat is 'safe' when corporate money is all that's left to fill the gaps. Even in deep blue districts, if progressives aren't properly funded by grassroots supporters like you, then special interests will use that opportunity to take advantage of candidates who need to keep their campaigns afloat.
Then we'll be left to wonder who those candidates will be accountable to. The short answer? Not us.
That's why this line of thinking keeps the influence of moneyed interests alive — and why it doesn't work for the movement we're trying to build.
When we fund progressive candidates, whether it be in a swing district or a deep blue stronghold, we ensure that our leaders are working for us, not mega donors or special interests.
It means that our leaders will keep their focus on delivering on the priorities that matter most to their communities, like affordability, healthcare, and workers' rights, without being pulled in the wrong direction.
