Time for Biden and the Senate to do their part

Dear Jason,

Over the past four days, we marched over 30 miles with the Poor People's Campaign and dozens of allied organizations to push the Senate and President Biden to pass the For the People Act — and put an end to voter suppression in Texas and across the country.

Beto marching

We started in Georgetown bright and early Wednesday morning and finished in Austin today with a voting rights rally in front of the state capitol. Thousands of people — including Willie Nelson, who played a spirited set at the end of the rally — showed up with amazing energy to take part in this fight.

Beto speaking

Throughout the week, we heard from members of the disability community, low-income workers, young Texans, and others who shared powerful first-hand stories of how voter suppression efforts in Texas would shut them out from our democracy.

We also heard from Reverend Jesse Jackson, one of our nation's greatest civil rights heroes who marched from Selma to Montgomery 56 years ago, and whose courage helped compel Congress and President Lyndon Baines Johnson to pass the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He reminded us of the voting rights struggle that came before us — and the voting rights struggle we have ahead.

Taking to the streets, marching with our neighbors, and showing up in person is how we bring more people into this fight for our democracy. But we need our federal lawmakers to do their part. I urge you to call President Biden (202-456-1414) and ask him to make voting rights his number one priority. It's the only way we pass the For the People Act and save our democracy before it's too late.

Let's keep the faith!

Grateful to be in this fight with you,

Beto
