You've probably seen the news: senior-most U.S. officials were making war plans via signal group chat. And they accidentally added a reporter to the chat. And they're now failing to take any responsibility.
This is where Congressional Oversight is supposed to come in.
The people in this group chat messed up, badly. They should be using secure, government channels to discuss these classified security matters. And they should have to answer to Congress.
But instead of holding them accountable through hearings and public demands for accountability, Congressional Republicans are making excuses and hoping this story fizzles out in a few days.
As a champion for good government oversight, this whole incident makes me incredibly worried for our country, and is a perfect example of what happens when we *don't* have strong oversight.
