Our democracy is supposed to give all of us a voice. But over the decades, it's been corrupted — serving only those who can pay for access and outcomes, while the rest of us are written off or drawn out of it altogether.
The result of this corruption is reflected in our inaction on the defining challenges of our time — as our system fails:
- to confront climate change as our fields flood and our forests burn
- to provide universal health care as families ration their medications
- to take action to stop gun violence as more than 30,000 perish each year
Most Americans agree on solutions to these problems. But our government is captured by those in power. To meet this moment and turn our ambitious plans into reality, we need a new kind of politics — one that's fearless about saying what's right and relentless in fighting for progress. A politics that rejects special interests. That is why our campaign can only be funded by we the people.
We've built this campaign $5, $10, $15 at a time; taking nothing from PACs, nothing from lobbyists, and nothing from corporations or special interests. Now we face a big test. On June 30, we will close the books on our FEC deadline and report the money we've raised. Reporters and other campaigns will scour over the numbers to gauge our momentum. It's absolutely critical that we show we can raise millions of dollars without any help from the PACs or special interests.
When you step up to donate to our campaign, you are not only ensuring we have the funds to build the largest grassroots campaign and win. But you are truly changing the face of our democracy, bringing power back into the hands of people. I am so thankful for each and every single one of you.
