As we grieve and protest the murder of George Floyd, it becomes ever more clear how urgent the need is to change this country. Fundamentally, from top to bottom. And the only way to do that is to change who sits in positions of power and public trust, from the courthouse, to the State House, to the White House.
That is why Powered by People volunteers are working harder than they ever have before to register as many new Democrats as possible in Texas (we have made over 215,000 phone calls so far this week).
We know this critical voter registration work will help us win a majority in the state legislature, a majority that can stand up against racial gerrymandering and police brutality, a majority that can stand for equity and equality in voting, healthcare, education, environmental justice and economic opportunity. And if we register enough new voters, Texas will be the state that stops Donald Trump in his tracks, awarding our 38 electoral college votes to the Democratic nominee for the first time since 1976.
Right now, there are hundreds of thousands of unregistered voters in Texas who we still have to reach to remind them to register to vote. These Texans must be heard at the ballot box.
