| Jason -- Eleven years ago, I sent an email from the DNC shortly after a minority of senators blocked a commonsense background checks bill. They blocked it right after the tragic shootings in Sandy Hook. That bill ultimately failed, but I wasn't giving up. I've been in politics a long time. I've seen time and time again that real, lasting change isn't always immediate. I'm emailing you today to tell you that just a few days ago, my administration finalized a rule closing a loophole in our gun laws that allowed firearm dealers to sell guns without performing background checks. I share this story because when that vote failed after Sandy Hook, no one thought we'd ever get this done. But I never stopped fighting -- you never stopped fighting -- and we did it. I know there's so much more we need to do to save lives. If we can win four more years, there's no telling how much more we can accomplish for the American people.
