Happy Earth Day! Today is the perfect day for each of us to recommit to the fight for bold action on climate change while protecting our air, water, and wildlife for decades to come.
The climate crisis is an existential problem, and we're already seeing the impacts here and now in California — from devastating wildfires to historic flooding, extreme temperatures, and rising sea levels. If we don't act fast, these harmful effects will only get worse.
As your Attorney General, I'm working to do everything in my power to follow the science and take the necessary action now to not only mitigate the impacts of climate change, but create a clean energy future for our children and the next generation.
Last year, I filed a lawsuit against five of the largest fossil fuel companies in the world — ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, ConocoPhillips, and BP — as well as their lobbying group the American Petroleum Institute for knowing about climate change decades ago and lying about it to the public to protect their bottom line.
It's one of the most important climate cases in history, with California now the biggest geographic entity and economy to sue Big Oil for its deception on this global issue.
I'm also fighting for stronger air and water protections, recently backing up the Biden Administration's improved air quality standards, Clean Water Act, and efforts to stop PFAS (AKA forever chemicals) and plastics from poisoning our waterways — which corporate-backed Republicans are trying to roll back.
It should go without saying: every person deserves clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and a safe, healthy environment to live their best lives. Powerful corporate interests like the fossil fuel industry and other polluters think they can keep risking our planet for their profits, but not on my watch.
Every dollar is appreciated and will help keep me in office working to create a better, more sustainable world for current and future generations.
In solidarity,
Rob
