TAKE ACTION: Bring steel manufacturing back to the U.S.

The United States once led the world in manufacturing.

Jason,   The United States once led the world in manufacturing, an industry that employed one in five Americans in the mid-20th century. In states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, nearly half of all nonfarm workers once created steel and other manufactured goods that shaped our world.   But 40 years of failed economic policy gutted the manufacturing industry, sent good jobs overseas, and hollowed out communities across the country. Manufacturing now employs less than 8 percent of workers. We may not be able to double manufacturing jobs nationwide. But smart, place-based industrial policy can restore it in places like PA and MI. We have the workforce and know-how to be a manufacturing superpower again by bringing the steel and aluminum industry back. And we can do it better and cleaner than China.   That's why I've introduced the Steel Modernization Act, which would unite the federal government with steel companies and unions to bring cleaner, better steel manufacturing back to U.S. soil. This bill would:   ✅ Establish 3-5 modern steel factories in communities with history and expertise in steel production; ✅ Concentrate on modern, clean steel production, using recycled materials and cleaner energy sources; ✅ Require any new construction and upgrades to use steel manufactured in the U.S.; and ✅ Create thousands of good-paying union jobs.   Tell Congress: Invest in reestablishing the United States as a global leader in steel manufacturing.
