Today, on the anniversary of January 6th, we fulfilled our congressional duty and certified the results of the 2024 election. I'm writing today to remind us all that 4 years ago it wasn't so simple.
On the one hand, things look a lot different today than they did 4 years ago. There were no grand speeches lying about voter fraud and thankfully, there was no mob storming the Capitol. Instead, Democrats did our duty, voting to certify the election. Vice President Kamala Harris even presided.
Yet the effects of January 6th are still with us today. When I showed up at the Capitol building this afternoon, there was massive, tall fencing all around us. Our Capitol, and our country, will never be the same after the political violence we experienced four years ago. We can never forget the terror we all felt that day.
And yet, our incoming President has vowed to pardon the rioters who violently attacked police officers and desecrated our nation's Capital. Marjorie Taylor Greene even called for January 6th to become a "national holiday."
Today I voted to certify the election results for a President I didn't vote for - because that's what we do in a democracy. We have some difficult times ahead of us, but I couldn't feel more strongly that we must stand by our principles while we stand up for our values.
You are receiving this email because Congressman Josh Harder is one of our last lines of defense to protect our democracy against MAGA extremists like Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
