Here's a recent quote from the LA Times: Wasserman said Democrats' strategic decisions have historically teetered between the need to win House seats in states like California and the cost of campaigning in areas with such expensive media markets. In the November election, the party suffered some of the consequences for not spending big in California races and losing some close races.
The best pick-up opportunities for Democrats are California districts, but we need to do serious work to organize in these communities, run ads, and turnout voters. Running campaigns here in California is more expensive than in most other places, so we have to get started early.
Having a Senate candidate at the top of the ticket who can energize and turnout voters will be critical to taking back the House and building a durable majority. As the candidate in this race who has recently won in a tough, purple district, I know what it takes to support down-ballot candidates.
Thanks to supporters like you, I flipped an Orange County seat in 2018. We defended it in 2020 and 2022, despite super PACs spending millions against me. Because of the work we've done, I'm confident a progressive Democrat will hold my current House seat in once red Orange County, and I'm ready to help replicate our success all across the state.
