I'm proud to say my kids and I are an Orange County family. But I grew up without the sprawling outdoor malls and beaches Southern California has to offer. I was born and raised in Iowa on my family's farm.
As a kid in rural Iowa, I participated in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. I also saw the farm crisis of the 1980's destroy livelihoods and change our community forever. I still remember the traffic jam when our town's bank closed, and families rushed to pull out their money. Not long after, my own dad had to leave farming and went to work at the town's reopened bank.
I saw firsthand the power both private corporations and government had to change lives, for better or for worse.
I know how forgotten many rural Californians feel living in areas where Democrats hardly show up. And I know how policies that might work in San Diego might not work in Sacramento. California's diversity is our strength, and our state deserves a Senator who will show up in every single part and pocket.
That's what I intend to do on the campaign trail and as our next Senator. Your donations help us travel the state and begin connecting with voters from all walks of life.
