Living in Orange County, I hear from so many parents who fear their kids will never be able to afford to stay in the area they grew up in.
California has struggled with the high cost of housing for decades, and for too long federal officials have refused to be a good partner to local governments who can't fix this problem on their own.
Last Congress, I supported a tax credit that would have helped build 300,000 affordable homes here in California. While it didn't become law, I'm still fighting, because there's so much more the federal government can do to spur innovation in the housing market that allows us to increase supply and lower costs.
In the Senate one of my top priorities will be lowering the cost of housing. Living in Orange County, I hear from so many parents who fear their kids will never be able to afford to stay in the area they grew up in. When I visited UC Davis the other week, most of the students I met with told me they couldn't see themselves being able to ever afford buying a home.
Now, I want to hear from you: How has the high cost of housing affected your family?
