I'm thrilled to share today that I'm officially endorsing Katie Porter's campaign for governor in California.
I'll tell you more below about why I'm backing Katie, but first you should know that winning a statewide election in California requires a lot of resources in order to hire staff, run ads, and share Katie's progressive message. Katie has never taken a cent of corporate money, and unlike some of her opponents she can't self-fund her own campaign.
I still remember the day when I met Katie. My consumer law class was early in the morning, meaning a lot of students had their heads down, trying to avoid being called on.
But not Katie. She was determined and ready to go. When the first answer she gave wasn't her strongest, she came to my office hours and said, "Please keep calling on me. I am going to learn to do this."
Getting to know her, I saw her bone-deep commitment to making a difference in people's lives.
When Katie decided to run for Congress in 2018, I was very happy to support her. I knew that we needed more people like her in Washington—who understood the real struggles that working families faced, who had the courage to stand up to big corporations and special interests, and who would fight to make our government work for everyone.
With Donald Trump back in office, working families need Katie's leadership more than ever. It's not just enough to elect any Democrat to be California's next governor. California families deserve a changemaker, a fighter, and a whip-smart leader like Katie who will defend their values and deliver results.
