Jason — this should alarm all of us.
The New York Times just profiled a Gen Z Republican candidate for governor of Florida named James Fishback. If you haven't heard of him, he's a conservative firebrand who is building his campaign around racist, sexist, and antisemitic rage bait.
I have said before that there are young people who absolutely should not be in power. Fishback is a prime example.
At a campaign event at UCF, Fishback stood in front of a cheering crowd and used a white nationalist slur pulled straight from the antisemitic corners of the internet. He's also repeatedly used dehumanizing terms to describe his Black opponent, Byron Donalds, and showed no remorse after doing so. These aren't even dog whistles, they're acts of open, unbridled bigotry in broad daylight.
While we're out here supporting young progressive candidates who are ready to lead us into the future, people who actually care about fixing problems instead of going viral online, this is what young conservatives have to offer in response.

Our mission is even more important if James Fishback is the kind of candidate young conservatives are rallying behind. These people do not belong in power.
Young Republicans running increasingly extreme and divisive campaigns are getting organized and running for office. And we need to be there with an answer to them.
Jason, I know we can win the debate about what kind of future Americans want to see for this country, but only if young progressives can compete in the fight.
