There are a few questions folks of all ages ask me about often: "What are we doing to reach younger voters? Are we on TikTok? How are we meeting people where they are?"
So I wanted to share a quick update — last month, we posted our very first video on Leaders We Deserve's TikTok!
We're investing in social media because this is where a huge part of the electorate gets their news, learns about candidates, and decides what they support. Additionally, it's a great tool to inspire the next generation to run for office.
We also know that if we want to win, we can't just show up in election years or rely on old strategies. We have to build culture, cut through the noise, and make sure people actually hear what's at stake.
That's why we're building our online presence. We started with hiring an incredibly talented 25-year-old video editor who understands the platforms, the trends, and how to create content that feels authentic, not too forced or cringe, not like a campaign trying too hard to share their message. This is about communicating with Millennials and Gen-Z audiences, because our candidates are Millennials and Gen-Z. We can get younger people to vote if we give them people to vote for.
Already the results have been pretty exciting: on our first two videos for the Leaders We Deserve TikTok we received over 500,000 views and 120,000 likes total and we even had people who came to our website and signed up to run for office after seeing our TikTok videos.
We're going to keep doing more of this, spotlighting our candidates, breaking down what's happening in the country in plain language, and building the kind of digital presence that reaches people who don't spend their days refreshing political Twitter or watching cable news. The leaders we deserve are out there but many of them need to be inspired to run in the first place and many of the best have never even considered it. With your support we are able to recruit candidates through direct outreach and even our TikTok and then train, advise and fund their campaigns. Thank you for making what we do possible.
