Friends, what happened in Minnesota this week is horrifying.
First, my heart is with the victim of this tragic shooting and her loved ones. Renee Nicole Good should be alive today. Her children should not be growing up without their mother.
ICE has repeatedly shown a disregard for human life, and has continually ignored basic law enforcement practices designed to keep communities safe. Targeting innocent people, ripping families apart, undermining trust in law enforcement. For Trump's ICE, cruelty is the point.
We can't accept it — we won't accept it.
I join the call from so many others, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, for transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation. And that same transparency and accountability must apply everywhere — in Minneapolis, in Portland, Oregon where CBP shot two people just yesterday, and anywhere federal agencies are abusing their power and putting lives at risk.
Instead of conducting a full, impartial review of the shooting in Minnesota to ensure appropriate accountability, the President, Kristi Noem, and the entire Trump administration are gaslighting the public. They're promoting disinformation in a blatant attempt to obscure the truth and frustrate justice.
No sympathy. No humanity. No attempt to fulfill their responsibility to be leaders for all of America.
I stand with every concerned and outraged Californian and American, and I will keep fighting with every ounce of power and platform I've got to keep our state and country safe from this administration's relentless, cold-blooded cruelty.
