Today, I'm proud to endorse Beto O'Rourke as he runs to serve the people of Texas as their next Governor.
The stakes couldn't be higher in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas GOP have ruthlessly attacked reproductive rights, undermined democracy, and failed to protect Texas families from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. Families and communities in Texas deserve so much better — and that's why my friend Beto is in this fight.
Beginning with Beto's insurgent 2018 U.S. Senate campaign that engaged millions of new voters across the Lone Star State, Beto has shown that he has what it takes to beat Greg Abbott and transform the broken status quo in Texas. Will you join me in supporting Beto O'Rourke by becoming a founding donor to his campaign?
Governor Greg Abbott is a prime example of an elected official who prioritizes himself and his wealthy friends over his constituents and their families.
We've seen it in Abbott's failure to address Texas' crumbling power grid, leading to catastrophic power outages and the death of hundreds of Texans in the winter of 2021. We saw it when he banned mask requirements in public schools, making Texas a national leader in child Covid deaths. And we saw it when he signed an unconstitutional law that bans most abortions in Texas. I'll say it again, Jason — Texas deserves better.
But beating Republican incumbent Greg Abbott won't be easy, especially since Abbott and his party have gone to great lengths to make voting more difficult than it ever should be. We're going to need a huge amount of grassroots resources to build the kind of people-powered movement that can reach and mobilize millions of Texas voters.
But if anyone can win this fight and build a Texas that works for everyone, it's my friend, Beto.
With voting rights, reproductive justice, and so much more on the line in Texas, this race couldn't be more important.
