Today's decision is a powerful reminder that when states stand together, when we stand up for the rule of law, one state's victory is a victory for all.
While Trump said he would lower costs on day one, he's been working overtime to raise them. He went hard to push these tariffs — the centerpiece of his domestic and foreign policy — and he literally broke the law to raise costs for Americans.
The chaos of Trump's sweeping global tariffs has sent businesses, consumers, and global economies reeling over the past year — making life more expensive for everyone in this country at a time when more and more people are already struggling to afford the basics.
But I also want to be clear about the impacts that these unlawful tariffs had on California, because as the 4th largest economy in the world, we bore an outsize share of the damage. California faced projected losses of over $25 billion dollars and a loss of over 64,000 jobs.
That is real economic pain for families and small businesses and workers. And some of this damage is irreparable.
Trump showed his contempt for the rule of law, and now his policies have been struck down because they're illegal, plain and simple.
Today, we celebrate an enormous win — and recommit to fighting for more victories for the people of California and all of America.
