 | | | | Sometimes, to fix a broken system, you have to work within it. | | Let me be clear, Jason: The chaos, confusion, and voter disenfranchisement that happened here in Texas last week should be a warning sign for Democrats everywhere. | | For eight years, Democrats in Dallas and Williamson counties have been able to vote at any polling location in the county for our primary elections. This year, Texas Republicans changed the rules. They forced folks to vote at a specific location in their precinct – or else their vote wouldn't be counted on Election Day. | | Many Texans didn't know or were unfamiliar with their new location, so when they showed up to vote, they were turned away and told to go elsewhere. What ensued amounted to GOP-led voter suppression. | | You don't have to take my word for it. On election night, a county judge extended the voting window for Democrats by two hours to try to even the playing field. | | But then, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton – who's running in his own election in the Republican Senate primary – filed a challenge with the state Supreme Court blocking that ruling. As a result, thousands of Democratic votes were likely not counted. | | Jason, if you're confused, that's the point. If you're outraged, that's the point. It's all part of the GOP's election playbook – and it's exactly why I'm running for Congress to stand up for my community, protect voting rights, and stop MAGA extremism. | | But first, I need your help to get there. | | Together, I know we can flip the House blue and defeat the GOP's attempts to rig our elections. So please, will you chip in $5 or whatever you can give today to help me win my runoff election in TX-33 and bring the change we desperately need to the country? | | | | Thank you for joining me in this fight, | | Colin Allred | | | | | | |
