Right now, super PACs like AIPAC are flooding money into primary races to crush progressive candidates — and they're even using shell organizations to do it.
Maybe it's ironic to say this since I co-founded Leaders We Deserve, but here's what I believe: Super PACs should not exist. My hope is that one day Leaders We Deserve won't need to exist either. But our candidates need us behind them, or they'll have no one boosting them when special interest groups like AIPAC try to defeat them.
If we do nothing, super PACs will flood the airwaves attacking our candidates, and these young progressive leaders won't be equipped to respond in a real way.
This is why these races cost so much. It's also why so many are cynical about politics. Money should not buy our elections — but the data show that money really does matter. That's why it's vital for us to help our candidates fight back – not just so we can help them win, but so that we have progressive leaders in office who will help transform our campaign finance system.
