Jason,
Washington is full of do-nothing politicians who talk a big game, and deliver nothing.
That isn't because there's a lack of effective elected officials at the state and local levels ready to lead in DC. It's because when there is a leader who has proven effective at taking on special interests at the state and local level, millions of dollars are spent to stop them from ever making it to Congress. This makes it so Congressional races are less about who's done the most to help their constituents and more about who has cozied up to the most special interest groups during their time in office.
Robert Peters is one of those effective elected officials who has spent his time as an IL State Senator fighting for his constituents instead of befriending lobbyists. From speaking out about the genocide in Gaza, ending cash bail, fighting the gun industry, and just last month introducing legislation to protect Illinoisans from AI-driven price discrimination (that's where AI uses your personal data to display one price for you and a different price for someone else on online stores).
No matter what special interest groups or lobbyists he might piss off, Robert has always put his constituents first. And now that he's running for Congress, those special interest groups are terrified of a truly independent leader like Robert Peters holding higher office.
That's why AIPAC, the AI industry, and Trump-aligned super PACs are spending millions to try and take him down.
They're terrified that he can actually win this thing, so they'd rather try to steal this seat out from under voters than engage in a fair fight.
But here's the problem for them: Robert Peters has spent his entire career delivering real solutions for the people of Illinois. Voters see that, and they won't be fooled.
In the Illinois State Senate, Robert helped pass one of the most significant criminal justice reforms in the country, ending cash bail and expanding police accountability through the SAFE-T Act.
And when it comes to confronting gun violence, Robert doesn't back down. He championed the RIFL Act, which would hold the gun industry accountable by taxing it to fund victim services, cover funeral costs, and provide long-term support for families impacted by gun violence.
Robert is making real, concrete change for his community — because that's who he answers to, not corporate PACs or right-wing billionaires.
And Robert doesn't wait for permission to do the right thing. He organizes, builds strong coalitions, and pushes bold ideas for working people, even when the battle is uphill.
That's exactly the kind of courageous leadership this moment demands, and it's why Leaders We Deserve is proud to stand with him.
With his March 17 primary right around the corner, we need all hands on deck to beat the corporate money trying to take him down.
If we're going to get better people elected to Congress, we have to show that you can remain an independent, principled leader, and still win. Because when the special interests come after you for sticking to your principles, Leaders We Deserve is here to help you fight back with the power of thousands of people chipping in what they can, when they can.
Thank you,
David Hogg
