NEW: Donald Trump’s administration is attempting to skirt the law and weaken restrictions on hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) — a category of extremely powerful greenhouse gas. The administration is breaking the law, so I’m suing.
The science is clear that we should be reducing our reliance on these super-pollutants, not easing the rules meant to tackle this crisis head-on.
But that’s exactly what Trump’s EPA is attempting to do by weakening rules that phase out the use of HFCs.
Once again, the Trump administration is attacking our critical environmental safeguards while communities across the country are left to deal with the consequences. It’s wrong and illegal — so once again, I’m taking them to court.
If that’s all you need to hear, click here to support our work holding Trump accountable before the end of the month.
Our planet is giving us clear warning signs that we’re approaching a dangerous climate tipping point. And right now, all across the country, communities are enduring extreme temperatures and devastating floods and wildfires — including here in California, where so many of us have seen firsthand the impacts of this crisis.
HFCs are some of the most powerful and fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions driving the climate crisis, yet the Trump administration wants to weaken the safeguards that would phase out these chemicals.
This administration wants to ignore our responsibility to protect our environment and our people, but we won’t. We will continue to confront the climate crisis head-on, fight for our planet and communities, and hold this administration accountable to the rule of law.
If you’re with me on this, I’m asking for your help to power our work. I’m up for re-election this year, and I can’t win without your support. Will you chip in today?
