As millions of families travel this summer, I'm working on legislation to make sure you don't get ripped off on your next trip:
✈️ Starting with flights: The airline industry has been consolidating for years, and that's led to higher prices. Now, there are reports that JetBlue is trying to rig the process to merge with Spirit. I've been scrutinizing this merger since it was first announced, and now I'm urging the Department of Transportation to hold JetBlue accountable. I've also introduced legislation to enforce prompt refunds for canceled flights and stop airplanes from shrinking seats even further.
🚗 Then you go to rent a car: And you're stuck waiting in line for hours, only to be told the car you reserved isn't there. My Rental Car Consumer Protection Act would require rental car companies to provide you with the vehicle you reserved within half an hour of the reservation time.
🏨 You make it to the hotel: I've called out Marriott for charging excessive junk fees and asked the Federal Trade Commission to look into it. Hotel chains received billions in federal aid during the pandemic and are now seeing record profits, they must meet workers' demands for more fair pay and better working conditions. I'm standing proudly with the Southern California hotel workers who are currently on strike.
🌲 My own family will be hitting the road this summer—and I know how expensive traveling can be. That's why I've pushed Congress to fund programs that preserve our National Parks and make access affordable so that families can get outside and spend time together.
Big corporations shouldn't be ripping you off. The work of holding powerful companies like these isn't popular in Washington because of the outsized influence they play in our politics. I don't take a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists, can you chip in $10 today to help power our campaign so I can continue this work in the U.S. Senate?
Many thanks and happy travels!
Katie
