Jason,
We asked. And more than 3,000 of you answered.
No, seriously! Last month, we sent out a survey asking an important question: If Democrats win back power, what should we actually do with it?
Thousands of you told us exactly what you want to see from the Democratic Party, and the message was loud and clear: stop playing it safe and start delivering for working people.
First, I want to say thank you for taking the time to give us your input. This is how we build a party that wins — by listening to the people we're fighting for.
Here's what rose to the top:
78% of respondents chose issues related to the affordability crisis.
Honestly, this was the loudest message we heard. People are working harder than ever to stay alive, but costs are crushing working people. Housing, health care, and childcare costs need to come down while wages go up, so working families can actually afford to buy a home and build a stable life.
72% of respondents chose issues related to our fundamental rights.
Basic rights shouldn't depend on which state someone lives in. That means codifying abortion rights, protecting LGBTQ+ communities, ending ICE's reign of terror, and guaranteeing humane immigration policies that create a real pathway to citizenship while treating people with dignity and care.
67% of respondents chose issues related to corruption and corporate power.
People are sick and tired of a system rigged for billionaires and the corporations that bankroll Washington. It's time to get special interest money out of our politics, challenge monopolies, and make the ultra-rich finally pay their fair share.
58% of respondents chose issues related to protecting our democracy.
Expanding voting rights and protecting our elections is fundamental to everything else we want to accomplish. Democracy only works when everyone can participate. That means ending voter suppression and making sure every voter can cast a ballot without barriers.
In other words: People are sick of asleep-at-the-wheel incumbents endlessly debating problems instead of solving them.
They want unapologetic leaders who listen to their constituents, go to Congress ready to fight, and deliver the wins working people have been waiting for.
But our policy agenda won't get off the ground by itself. It takes organizing, electing leaders who have the backbone to put up a fight, and people like you, Jason, who refuse to settle for politics as usual.
Thank you again for filling out the survey. Myself and my team actually do look at the responses and it helps inform us about what you all think our candidates need to prioritize.
David Hogg
