Angela Gonzales-Torres was born and raised in Highland Park. Her father, a military veteran, was deported over a decade ago — so she was raised by a single mother who relied on SNAP and Medicaid just to get by. She knows firsthand the issues working Angelenos are facing right now, because she’s lived them. And she’s spent her entire life turning that lived experience into service, working with people transitioning from prison into universities and fighting for permanent affordable housing.
Angela knows this district personally, and deeply. As President of her Neighborhood Council, in the Los Angeles Mayor's Office, and on Metro's Public Safety Advisory Committee, she has spent her life fighting alongside her neighbors resisting displacement, in communities carrying the highest costs of incarceration, the dirtiest air in the county, and the most eviction notices in the city.
In Congress, Angela will fight to get corporate money out of politics, protect tenants from displacement, expand access to permanent affordable housing, co-sponsor Medicare for All, and push for a humane, inclusive approach to immigration. Angela is exactly the kind of leader CA-34 deserves to reflect the courage of its people.
Her opponent, incumbent Jimmy Gomez, has taken millions of dollars from AIPAC over his tenure in Congress. He refused to sign onto the original Gaza ceasefire resolution in Congress, and in a district facing a severe housing affordability crisis, he’s taken real estate lobby dollars from the same entities displacing working people in core LA neighborhoods.
CA-34 deserves leadership that will only ever serve their interests — not leave them behind for whoever's writing the biggest check.
Leaders We Deserve doesn’t take a single dollar from corporate PACs or special interests — and neither does Angela. Our ability to back candidates like her depends entirely on this grassroots team showing up when it counts.
