If lobbyists want to meet with me, they better bring their good ideas, not their checkbooks
I'm the only Democrat in this race who has never taken a dime of corporate PAC money and doesn't take contributions from federal lobbyists. Here's the story behind it.
A few years ago I attended a reception for newly elected Members in DC. A lobbyist came up to me and said "Well, I guess you're one of the new Members we'll never see." I asked him why. He said it was because I didn't take corporate PAC money.
Since that day, I've said clearly—if lobbyists want to meet with me, they better bring their good ideas, not their checkbooks. I fully support banning corporate PAC and federal lobbyist contributions, because Americans shouldn't question who their elected officials are really working for.
But until we pass serious campaign finance reform, every Member of Congress has a choice to make when it comes to corporate PAC money. As elected leaders, we're privileged to be in positions of power, and we should use our power to stand up to the status quo and corporate special interests.
Californians deserve to know that their Senator works for them. Whether it's using my whiteboard to hold Wall Street CEOs accountable or passing legislation to prevent Big Pharma from raising prices, I'm proud to fight for working people.
