Ya’ll, something BIG is happening tonight. At midnight, we’re facing our first and only end-of-quarter FEC deadline of this runoff election. You’re likely hearing about this FEC deadline from a ton of other candidates and organizations, but I wanted to take a moment to share why it’s so important – especially for our campaign here in Texas’ 33rd District. If you already know the importance and are ready to chip in, please use the button below! Anybody who wants to run for office at the federal level has to file with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to make it official. At the end of each three-month quarter, every campaign is legally required to report their fundraising numbers: how much they’ve raised and how many donations they’ve received. And here’s the big deal: These reports are open to the public. You can simply go onto the FEC website, search for a campaign of your choosing, and get a clear view of their finances. Everyone – the media, our opponents, and our supporters – will look at these numbers to gauge the strength and viability of our campaign. It all boils down to one simple question: Do we have what it takes to win? The press and pundits will be watching to see whether this runoff – and our campaign, specifically – deserves airtime, attention, and promotion. Is it worth featuring us on their nightly broadcasts or highlighting our campaign in their articles and social media posts that reach millions of people? My opponent, Julie Johnson, will be watching to see just how big of a threat we are heading into the next couple of months. A weak report could signal that we’re vulnerable to attack ads, encouraging her to increase her budget. My supporters (and potential supporters) will be watching to see whether this grassroots movement is worth the investment. It’s a heck of a lot more motivating to give your hard-earned money to those who look like they have what it takes to win. Momentum is a powerful force. That’s why these FEC deadlines are so important – and since this is the first and only one of this runoff, honestly… we have to crush it. One more reason why these FEC deadlines are so important, particularly for candidates like me? I reject corporate PAC money. I’m running a grassroots campaign powered by $5 and $25 donations from everyday people – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want to be beholden to big corporations and their wealthy executives and stakeholders. I want Texans to know that my vote isn’t for sale. When I vote for a bill or push a policy, it’ll be coming from me and me alone. It’s this kind of transparency that we need more of today to restore trust in the political system and make sure politicians serve their constituents, not special interests. But listen, this style of fundraising doesn’t come without its challenges. I have to lean on you much more than other candidates, especially my opponent, Julie Johnson. She’s spreading attacks that have no merit against me across North Texas – and she’s taken hundreds of thousands of dollars in corporate PAC money. We have to defeat her, but it’s going to take all of us pitching in. Thank you for everything. Colin Allred Paid for by Allred for Texas |
