In just a minute, I'm going to personally ask you to make a $5 contribution to my campaign for governor before tonight's midnight deadline.
Before I do, I hope you'll let me share an important lesson I've learned about faith.
Back in 2021, the Texas GOP was ramming an extreme anti-voter bill through the State House. The voter suppression bill they were pushing was ugly. It was dangerous. And I knew that staying put would mean letting Texans lose their freedom to vote.
So I took a leap of faith. I chose to walk off the floor.
But I knew I couldn't stop this bill on my own. I needed my fellow Democratic legislators with me in order to break quorum. So I stood up and I texted other legislators:
"A leap of faith only works if you take it."
Together, we ran out the clock and stopped a bill designed to silence Texas voters. That quorum break protected Sunday morning voting — a sacred tradition in Black churches — and blocked a provision that would have allowed partisan judges to overturn election results without evidence. And we earned that victory together.
Just like I needed my fellow Texas Democrats by my side on that day five years ago, I'm asking you to join me today. I'm asking you to have faith that we can finally unseat corrupt Governor Greg Abbott and flip Texas blue together.
Each time you chip in to our people-powered campaign, you're doing it alongside thousands of others who also believe in our power to win a brighter future for every Texan.
