Instead of fixing skyrocketing costs of health care, gas, and groceries, President Trump and the GOP are trying to stop people from voting so they can increase their odds in this year’s midterms. |
The SAVE Act they’re pushing through Congress would: |
- Create a federal voter surveillance database
- Ban universal mail voting and online voter registration
- Prevent states from counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day
- Require proof of citizenship to register and a photo ID to vote
- Mandate purges of voter rolls

The restrictions in this bill are so severe that a woman who changes her last name after marriage could be barred from voting because her last name doesn’t match her birth certificate. That one issue affects 69 million married women. |
The SAVE Act would also effectively impose a poll tax on millions of eligible Americans who would need to get proof of citizenship to vote. Its ban on universal mail voting would cause election chaos in universal vote-by-mail states like Nevada. And I don’t trust what would happen if we handed all our voter data to the federal government while it is led by a corrupt President who has already tried to overturn the results of free and fair elections. |
