It’s beyond frustrating to have to write this sentence: The Supreme Court just ruled to allow wealthy Republican megadonors to have even greater influence over election outcomes. |
By striking down limits on coordinated spending between candidates and political parties, the court let loose a flood of midterm cash that will influence Congressional elections. |
This ruling eliminates essential safeguards in election spending, overturning decades of precedent and essentially re-envisioning campaign finance laws to further the far-right agenda. We can expect to see tens of millions of dollars pouring into tight races from Trump allies. Decision after decision, this Court is dismantling the pillars of our democracy. Just weeks ago, this same Court gutted what remained of the Voting Rights Act – green-lighting Republicans to redraw congressional maps and dilute the political power of marginalized communities. |
