Leaders We Deserve-endorsed candidate Nate Blouin just went on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC to talk about a planned ICE detention facility in Utah and how the community around Salt Lake City is coming together to fight back.
Nate is leading that fight. He introduced the "ICE Out" bill in the Utah legislature to limit ICE's ability to operate in the state, and he's shown up to protests outside the facility, standing shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of Salt Lake City residents to stop the new detention center — all before he's even become a member of Congress.
The action Nate is taking locally and the national attention he's bringing to the issue is exactly the kind of leadership that people want to see in Congress. They don't want more strongly worded letters from people with power to do something. They want Democrats to show up and actually fight, win or lose, for what's right.
Nate is running for Congress in Utah — and his opponent in the race has taken tens of thousands of dollars in contributions from private prison corporations.
