Friend, |
I am the third Jewish woman and the first former synagogue president ever elected to the United States Senate. Think about that: In our nation’s 250-year history, there were only TWO Jewish women elected to the Senate before I joined. |
Like any believer, my faith is deeply tied to who I am, what I fight for, and my role as a lawmaker. It’s part of why I care about the issues that I do, and it means that I bring with me the same struggles that all Jews face. Most prominently, the threat and impact of antisemitism. |
That's why I'm leading the charge in the Senate to combat the increasing levels of violence and harassment Jewish Americans are facing right now. |
Will you please make a gift of $5 or more to support my work in Washington to fight the epidemic of antisemitism across our country? |
For me, this fight is personal. When I was just a few years old, I was playing in a hotel swimming pool with my mom while on vacation when a lifeguard on duty told her that we were “dirty” because we were Jewish – and that we had to leave the pool immediately because of it. My parents packed up our things and left that hotel. We never returned. My mom never forgot that interaction, retelling the story for years. |
Nearly every Jewish American has a moment in their lives when they experience or witness antisemitism like that firsthand, and the problem is especially serious today. |
Swastika graffiti. Physical assaults and threats. Firebombings. Multiple deadly mass shootings. These attacks on Jews are not isolated incidents. They represent a regression toward one of civilization’s darkest chapters. |
All of it is wrong, and addressing this kind of violent antisemitism is an issue I’ve been working on since before I came to Congress and throughout my time in the House and Senate. That is why: |
- I founded the Senate’s first ever Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, which now includes more than half the Senate as members.
- I just introduced the Jewish American Security Act – sweeping legislation to fight antisemitism on college campuses, at Jewish communal institutions, and online. The bill is supported by the American Jewish Committee, the ADL, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.
- I successfully pushed the Biden administration to create the first-ever National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, which took a whole-of-government approach to tackling rising hate.
- I led the effort in Congress to increase the power of the State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism by raising the position to the rank of Ambassador.
- I introduced and successfully helped pass legislation reauthorizing the Never Again Education Act to educate communities about the Holocaust.
- I successfully pressured the Trump administration to avoid weakening Coast Guard standards for hate symbols like swastikas.
When I think about this work, I think about being that little girl with her mom again. Every day, I'm trying to help make our country a place where nobody is targeted because of their faith or who they are – whether it’s at a swimming pool, on a college campus, or in the United States military. |
This work is more urgent than ever now that Americans across the country are being targeted, attacked, and killed simply because they are Jewish. That's why I'm counting on your support to power my fight today. Please, make a generous gift of $5 or more now to help me keep fighting in the Senate to make our country safer and more tolerant for all of us. |
