I’m proud to announce that Leaders We Deserve is endorsing Ruwa Romman’s campaign for Georgia State Senate in District 7!
Ruwa has been organizing Georgians since 2014, volunteering in every single election cycle to help flip the state blue. In 2020, she co-founded the Georgia Volunteer Hub that mobilized thousands of volunteers for the Senate runoffs that helped flip the chamber and change the balance of power in Washington.
When she won her House Representative seat in 2022, she made history as the first Muslim woman elected to Georgia’s State House and first Palestinian American ever elected to public office in the state. And she’s been fighting hard for her community ever since.
As a House representative, she introduced the first statewide data center moratorium in the country, because she knows that data centers are draining water supplies, skyrocketing Georgia Power bills, and permanently impacting communities that never even had a say in those decisions. She introduced legislation to end the tax breaks Georgia Republicans handed to corporate landlords — because in a state with some of the highest rates of corporate homeownership in the country, working families are being priced out of their own neighborhoods. And when ICE started terrorizing immigrant communities, she stood strong with her neighbors to protest their cruelty, and authored and co-sponsored legislation to ban ICE from schools, hospitals, and places of worship.
In Georgia’s State Senate, Ruwa will hit the ground running. She’ll fight to expand Medicaid, because Georgia is one of the last states in the country still refusing to do it, and 18 rural hospitals have closed as a direct result of that decision. She’ll introduce legislation to enshrine free state breakfast and lunch for every Georgia student into law so no kid has to learn on an empty stomach, and raise Georgia’s abysmal $5.15 minimum wage to at least $15 an hour. She’ll protect the voting rights that are under attack across the South, and use 10% of Georgia’s budget surplus to invest in a first of its kind cancer research hub to generate revenue to reopen hospitals and bring new jobs to her constituents.
District 7 is an open blue seat, and winning the primary on May 19 is everything. Ruwa is in a four-way primary, and the field is competitive — but none of her opponents bring what she does: Over a decade of organizing experience, a proven legislative record, and the kind of grassroots infrastructure that wins tight races. Ruwa has already done the hard work in this district, for these communities. That’s why she’ll win.
But she needs resources to get over the finish line. She doesn’t take a dime from corporate PACs or special interests. Her campaign runs entirely on grassroots support, from people like you who believe Georgia deserves bold, fearless leadership that will actually fight for and protect working people.
