Jason — another day, another reason to be pissed off at the Dem establishment.
Right now, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is putting its thumb on the scale to back a conservative Democrat over progressive candidate (and LWD endorsee) Randy Villegas.
Establishment Democrats claim to want a big tent party — until it starts to include real progressive fighters who don’t answer to corporations, billionaires, or big pharma.
This should be simple. Randy Villegas is the stronger Democratic candidate in fundraising. He’s got the endorsements and bonafide campaign momentum. Plain and simple, Randy is Democrats’ best chance at flipping CA-22 blue and winning back the House.
And yet, the DCCC is ignoring Randy’s momentum in order to back the candidate who:
- was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans against Prop 50
- shares nearly 60 corporate donors with the Republican incumbent
- couldn’t even show up to a vote forcing ICE agents to remove their masks
The Democratic establishment is wasting resources in primaries to prop up weak candidates simply because they are more friendly to the same broken agenda of helping corporations and the ultra wealthy than advancing the progress Democratic voters are begging for. Spending critical dollars on the only California Assembly Democrat too feckless to stand up to Trump is a huge miss from the DCCC.
Because let’s be honest — if you are funded by the same donors as your Republican opponent and you don’t have the courage to stand up to Trump in the California State Legislature, you sure as hell won’t be able to in Washington.
But moments like this are why Leaders We Deserve exists. We’re backing Randy and helping to level the playing field for a progressive candidate against the establishment who wants to stop him. And we can win — if we have the resources.
Our candidates never accept corporate PAC money, because that’s not who they work for. They are in this fight for the right reasons. When they have the backing they need to get their message out and talk to voters, they can win, even against long odds.
The only way we can keep these races competitive while the Dem establishment tries to push their status quo agenda is with people like you joining us in this critical fight.
