Happy Juneteenth, Maryland.
Today, we celebrate the moment the last enslaved Americans finally heard the words: you are free.
Juneteenth is a beautiful reckoning, but also a reminder that our work isn't done.
As governor, I've fought to make that freedom real every day — from fighting to close the racial wealth gap by removing barriers to employment, education, and homeownership for thousands of Marylanders, to making history with the largest single mass pardon for cannabis possession in this country.
But there's still more to do. Loving your country doesn't mean lying about its history. Real patriotism means knowing we can always be better, and doing the work to get there.
So this Juneteenth, let's honor those who came before us and recommit to the fight for a better future. For every Marylander, everywhere.
