We’re About To Take Back TexasThe momentum is on our side, but there are a couple of key things working against us.
The energy I’m seeing on the ground here in Texas is incredible. Texans are fired up and ready to send a Democrat to the U.S. Senate for the first time in a generation. They’re hungry to elect bold leaders to the House who will fight for working families and take back our majority in Congress. They’re tired of business as usual, and they want change.
I’m with them. But as excited as I am about all of the progress we’re making in these races, I’m also deeply concerned about the threat that the Texas Republicans we’re running against pose – to our communities and American democracy at large. There’s no greater example of the cruelty and corruption – the corrosive rot – that exists in our politics than Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s running in the Texas Senate race. He was indicted on felony securities fraud charges. He abused the power of his office to do backroom deals with political donors. When members of his own staff came forward to report him, he went after those whistleblowers with everything he had. He was impeached by his own party in the Texas House – but then the Senate acquitted him of all 16 charges of corruption and bribery. Ken Paxton has never once thought of the people of Texas before himself, and the way he carries himself is emblematic of many Republicans in power right now or running for office. We have to stop them from winning – because working families have suffered for too long. The momentum to win big in Texas is on our side, but there are a couple of key things working against us: 1) The new Texas electoral map that the GOP racially gerrymandered to dilute minority voting power and silence voices they don’t want to hear from – all in a cynical attempt to hold on to control of the House. 2) The GOP’s massive war chest, every cent of which Republicans will use to tip crucial races in their favor and crush Democrats like me who are fighting to un-rig the system they rigged. The thing that keeps me motivated, though, is this grassroots team. People like you.
Together, I know we can bring real, positive change to Texas. We can take Texas from the billionaires and corporate special interests – and give our state back to the people. But it’ll only be possible if folks know exactly what’s at stake in this race heading into November. So today, I’m asking you to help us win in Texas this year by sharing this post with a friend, a family member, or a coworker. We have to spread our message far and wide to reach more voters, flip Texas blue, and take back congressional control. Thanks for being part of this movement.
