Jason,
I have to say it: we’re absolutely crushing it this cycle. 21 wins, 42 endorsements and counting. But I am worried about whether we can keep this momentum going through November — I will get to that in a second, though.
We just had a big night in New York — our candidates Claire Valdez and Aber Kawas both defeated their establishment-backed opponents by over 20 percent!!
In California, Randy Villegas went up against a candidate backed by the DCCC and $2.8 million from AIPAC-affiliated groups. But we advised his campaign daily and spent almost $400,000 getting his message out to voters, and he won his primary. He’s headed to a competitive general election against Republican David Valadao, and his race is one that will decide who controls the House. And Mai Vang took on a 45-year+ political dynasty and won, even in the face of hundreds of thousands from defense contractors, AIPAC and her 81 year old billionaire opponent loaning herself $1 million.
From Georgia and Texas to Pennsylvania and Illinois, we’re building a bench of bold young leaders in state legislatures and in Congress to fight for working people.
But here is why I am worried — while we have had many hard fought wins against the establishment and corporations, we are doing two challenging but necessary things at the same time. We are shaking up the Democratic party by challenging the asleep at the wheel Democrats who caused us to lose not once but TWICE against Trump. We’re also fighting tooth and nail to break Republican majorities in state legislatures and Congress across the country.
We need your help to make sure we can finish the primary season strong to offer voters new leaders instead of new talking points and ensure Democrats have the best chance possible to beat Republicans in November.
We’re flipping critical swing districts, taking down special interest money on their own turf, and proving that working class politics and grassroots momentum is the way forward.
Every single one of these wins tells the same story: when you back the best candidates with a real plan for the way forward and refuse to take a single dime from anyone trying to buy their way into our politics — we win.
That’s our model for winning, and it works. All of it is made possible by this people-powered movement. Supporters like you, stepping up to fuel our work so we can find fearless young leaders early, back them with real resources, and support them from launch day all the way to victory.
We’ve still got more ground to cover before this quarter closes out. This is the season when campaigns build the strength they need to win, or come up short — so I mean it when I say it really matters. We need you with us to reach our goal.
Thank you,
David Hogg
